In January, 2010, Michael Alford accompanied the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards on their deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan. One of only a handful of artists to travel to the front lines, Michael's aim was to share and record the experiences of soldiers in the field, whatever those might be. For two weeks, he lived with the Guardsmen on remote patrol bases at the fringes of ISAF-held territory near Nad-e Ali. Michael's Afghan Sketches and Afghanistan Paintings are the products of this extraordinary journey.
